AB OBJECTIVES: 1. To create self awareness among the youth about
Adolescence changes and drives which make them vulnerable to HIV
infection. 2. Help the youth internalize the HIV/AIDS problem and
consequently devise options that help them avoid it. METHODS: Through
conducting youth seminars. Sessions involve lecture methods, feedbacks,
discussion, questions, roleplays, personal testimonies of PWAs, relevant
film shows, counselling and voluntary testing. RESULTS: It is observed
that testimonies of PWA have impact. They help the youth internalise the
risk of HIV infection and many begin to seek HIV tests and practice
safer sex which are preliminary to behaviour change complex. 14 seminars
so far have been carried out with a total of 9200 participants of which
411 opted to test immediately after the sessions. Records at the Centre
show that from August to 18th December, 1993, 70% of the people that
tested were the Youth. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: The activity is
worthwhile and produces desired behaviour change practices. It needs
regular follow-up to ensure consistance of behaviour change adoption.
